Life Through the Eyes of a Child

As I was doing my physics homework and getting frustrated tonight I remembered a kid I saw yesterday at the BYU football game. He came up to where my friend was working the concessions Dippin' Dot stand and had to face the stress of choosing a flavor. With a great light bulb moment, the boy began the choosing process with the ever ingenious idea of "innie minnie mo."

Once the flavor was chosen by chance, and money was exchanged, the kid received his change. My friend gave him a fifty cent piece. The boy, with a tight grip on the coin, holding it up to his face, excitement in his eyes, and with a bright smile, he excitedly said, "this is the biggest penny ever!!!"

So what does this have to do with physics and all that? Well it was just a reminder of how I should view life. Though things like getting good grades in school are important, it isn't something that I need to stress out so much that it diminishes my happiness. Of course, in life there will be hard things and things I don't want to do, but I can always see the world around me in the optimistic, joyful, innocent way this boy did.

Food for Thought

The other day as I with was Chelsea and her sister and brother in law; her sister made an interesting comment that made me start to think. She commented on how back in the day it was all about the hard candy, but as times got quicker, technology evolved and we have come to expect everything to happen in the instant a new product came about.....chewy candy! Many of the hard candies such as Sprees or Sweet-tarts, became chewable for our instant gratification.

Now don't get me wrong, I think these candies are delicious, but at the same time it is interesting to see how our drive for wanting things fast and in the moment has even effected food. Another example is sliced apples that now come in bags. Really? As if sticking a whole apple in your mouth and biting off a piece is such a taxing task. Nope! We have to have them pre-sliced and bite size.

There are many conveniences of having things quick and fast. As an example the internet provides much great knowledge and information; which as a college student I find very helpful. Used properly this enhances the world around us and connects people in ways that we were not connected before.

Not all things work or ought to work in this manner though. One of them being the gospel of Jesus Christ. If one treats the gospel like they treat there internet and computer, they will be disappointed a lot of the time and miss out on some of the greatest blessings God can give. Though there are times that God gives us immediate answers, guidance, and help; there are many times were one must be patient, do his or her own part, and act on faith. These times, just like growing a testimony, becoming converted, and following the gospel, take time and patience. So what's the pay off? A life that becomes fully rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, the richness of a life guided by the Spirit, peace, and so much more.

So slow down and smell the roses! Take life one step at a time, and whether that step is a slow step or a fast step, take it with the appropriate time.

Life

So the other day I was famished after mowing lawns with my friend Taylor. After being disappointed that the Cannon Center, a buffet area on campus, was closed we headed to the bowling alley on campus. Why the bowling alley for food?, you may ask- well in the bowling center is a little burger joint and with our discount gets us a killer deal.

After getting our combo meals we sat and down and I began to devour my food. I must have been eating real fast because on about the fifth handful of fries I bit my fingers- and not just a nip on my finger tips but a literal bite down on my finger! I mean it's one thing to bite your lip or your tongue, but your finger?! This truly brought a new meaning to the phrase, "don't bite the hand that feeds you."

So what was I to do? The only thing I could do was laugh at myself. If you are unable to laugh at yourself, you will quickly run out of things to laugh at (probably a Chinese proverb from a fortune cookie). As a take away message, live life, choose to laugh instead of cry, and be happy!
