Guatemala Trip

Here are just some pictures from our trip to Gautemala

Careneceria

A church on the hill of a small town

Cows out grazing in the heat
Beautiful scenery

Octopus-a bit rubbery but good

Squater towns. Though cool to look at, these hills and mountains are covered with the poor and their make shift homes. These literally are the slums. Here in Provo we look out on the mountains and the rich have their nice homes and cabins their. Just something to think about and how blessed we are.

Then of course, BUGS!

Look closely. This "glass wing butterfly" is amazing with it's transparent wings

A cool moth.

In Guatemala we call this a Ron Ron....wouldn't you run run?
On the bridge across the beautiful river.
Swimming in the river.

This beauty comes with a price. Here is a great volcano. Guatemala is riddled with them!

Animal Diversity Lab - Bio 220 A

These pictures are cool things that we looked at today in lab from the phylum - mollusca

This is a shell from a Gastropoda aka a snail. Just imagine what this snail would look like alive!
This beautiful shell comes from a Gastropoda known as Albone or Mother of Pearl. Though this animal has become more endangered you can still buy them and they make good eatin'!
This is the outside shell of a Cephalopod known as Nautilus. There is a squid like creature that comes out of the opening of the shell. If you have ever seen a rendition of a prehistoric oceon, chances are you have seen similar creatures.
This is the beautifully artistic inside of the creature. The little chambers that appear as the creatures shell starts to spiral inward actually hold gas and allow it to balance in place in water and create equilibrium boyance.

These two images are just sweet skeletons that are in the lab. You have a large Crane skeleton and a great Frog skeleton.
